As summer approaches, you’re probably starting to think about pool parties, barbecues, and all of the fun, patriotic summer holidays. Being able to dress up in red, white and blue is fun any time of the year, however, it’s especially fun for the Fourth of July and Pioneer Day! Nothing says “I’m celebrating” like dressing up to show your national and state pride. Here are a few great outfits you can try whether you want to go dressy, casual, or somewhere in between.

1. Monochrome Skirt and Shirt with Colored Accessories

The first choice to consider is the monochrome approach. Pick red, white or blue as your primary color, then, accentuate the outfit with accessories in the other two colors.

For example, you could grab one of these beautiful modest skirts or knee-length skirts in blue, then add a matching blue top. Double-check that the blues match exactly because there are so many different shades of blue, and if your pieces aren’t exactly the same shade, the outfit won’t have the monochromatic look that you’re trying to achieve.

Then add accessories in the other two patriotic colors by wearing white earrings and a patriotic headband! Pair it all with your favorite pair of wedges, heels or flats in white or red to tie the outfit together. If you want to take it a step further, add in a cute purse!

2. A Classic White Tee and Blue Jeans

You can’t go wrong with a classic white t-shirt and blue jeans. You might even already have these staples in your closet. To make it more patriotic, add red accessories! So, red shoes, a red bag, and maybe even some red jewelry.

This outfit can also be changed to fit your wardrobe. Most people own at least one pair of blue jeans. As long as you have those, you can pair them with a blue or red shirt if you don’t have a white one. Then switch in accessories to make the outfit as patriotic as you want.

3. Blue or Red Midi Skirt and a White Blouse

If the holidays fall on a Sunday and you’re headed to church—or you just want to be a little more dressy—consider a midi skirt. Select a skirt in red or blue and pair it with a white blouse. To finish off the look, put on a red headband and some cute earrings, then add a cute pair of heels in a neutral color for a simple feel, or choose a patriotic color if you don’t want to be understated!

4. A Dress and Accessories

If you’re wanting another look that can be both dressed up or down, try wearing a dress. Grab a casual red dress and throw a blue jean jacket over the top. If you want to give it an even more patriotic feel, grab a pair of statement earrings and a statement purse

To dress the outfit up, opt for a pair of dressier white shoes like heels or wedges. If you’d like to dress it down, try a pair of low-profile sneakers, sandals or flip-flops. You’d be surprised how much you can influence an outfit with your shoe choices.

5. Graphic Tee and Shorts

If you’re not feeling like wearing full pants or a skirt, you can always opt for a pair of modest denim shorts with a patriotic graphic tee. There are so many cute shirt options out there, but we love this women’s patriotic graphic tee in particular. Toss on a pair of white or red sneakers, and you’re all set!

The secret to most patriotic outfits is that you can be understated or go all out—it’s totally up to you! To be understated, simply wear an accessory, like a patriotic pin, purse, or necklace with one of your favorite outfits. If you want to go all out, make sure your outfit includes all three colors and that you also include stars or a picture of a national symbol. That way, there’s no question about what you’re celebrating!

Whether you’re celebrating your favorite patriotic summer holidays at home, out at parades, eating at barbecues or lounging at pool parties, you’ll look amazing in your cute new threads!
